    Dry Lining / Plasterboarding

    Dry Lining / Plasterboarding

Dry Lining / Plasterboarding is a technique of covering large areas of wall or ceiling with a large flat ready made board of plaster. Although invented in 1894, it wasn’t until the late eighties that houses in Great Britain were being constructed using this material.

There are two main methods of using plasterboard.

    Dry Lining / Plasterboarding

This method also known as dotting and dabbing is where the boards are stuck to the wall using a special material known as dry wall adhesive. When this method is done by an experienced professional, the amount and distribution of the adhesive can be varied to create a finished wall which is both flat and vertical. This is one of the reasons it is preferred by many builders.

The Second method is where the plasterboards are screwed to wooden battens. these can be either the timbers in the ceiling or the wooden uprights in stud walls.

One of the drawbacks of Dry Lining / Plasterboarding is its vulnerability to water. The good news though is that the manufacturers have developed special versions of the board at similar prices, which can be water resistant, fire resistant, and sound resistant. Each of these boards has it’s own uses depending on your requirements.

After the boards have been applied whichever the technique, I then skim over the whole walls or ceilings to leave a smooth flat surface which you can either paint of paper.
